Skin Needling & Microneedling

Skin needling — also called microneedling or collagen-induction therapy — at our Fortitude Valley clinic in Brisbane. Fine needles create thousands of controlled micro-channels that trigger the skin's own repair process, supporting texture, tone and the appearance of fine lines and scars.

We use a medical-grade, Australian TGA-approved device, and every treatment is preceded by a skin assessment with our Registered Nurse. Results build across a series rather than a single visit, and individual results vary.

How it works & what to expect

Skin needling is one of the most effective dermal therapies for optimising skin regeneration. Fine needles create thousands of micro-channels that trigger the skin’s natural repair process, stimulating collagen and elastin to improve texture, tone and the appearance of fine lines and scars.

Our skin needling device is a Medical Grade and Australian TGA-approved device and treatment protocol. It delivers advanced microneedling and can create up to 1,920 puncture channels per second — up to 104% faster than some other microneedling devices.

Who it suits — and who it does not

Skin needling suits people concerned with texture rather than laxity: enlarged-looking pores, uneven tone, rolling or boxcar acne scarring, and early fine lines. It works with your own healing response, which is why it is a common starting point for people who want a change in skin quality without a device that relies on heat or light.

It is not appropriate during active acne breakouts or skin infection, over active cold sores, on skin currently or recently treated with oral isotretinoin, during pregnancy, or where there is a history of keloid scarring. If sagging rather than texture is your main concern, a tightening treatment is the more honest recommendation and we will say so.

Your session, step by step

We cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing cream, then leave it to take effect for around 20–30 minutes. The needling pass itself takes roughly 20 minutes for a full face, working systematically across each zone at a depth chosen for the area and your concern.

Most clients describe it as a strong vibration with some prickling over bonier areas such as the forehead and jaw. Afterwards we apply a calming serum and SPF. You will leave looking flushed, similar to moderate sunburn, and that settles over the next day or two.

Aftercare and how many sessions

For the first 24 hours use only water or the gentle cleanser we recommend, skip makeup, and avoid the gym, saunas and swimming. Retinoids, exfoliating acids and vitamin C go back in after about five days. Daily SPF is not optional — freshly needled skin is more vulnerable to pigmentation from sun exposure, and skipping it can undo the result you paid for.

A course of three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is typical, because collagen remodels slowly and each session builds on the last. Scarring generally needs more sessions than general texture. Your plan is confirmed at consultation, and individual results vary.

Good to know

What does skin needling do?

Skin needling (collagen-induction therapy) creates controlled micro-channels in the skin to stimulate its natural renewal processes, supporting the appearance of texture, pores and certain scars.

Does it hurt?

A topical numbing cream is generally applied beforehand, and most clients describe the sensation as very tolerable. Your comfort is monitored throughout the session.

What is the downtime?

Redness similar to mild sunburn for 24–72 hours is typical. Diligent sun protection and gentle skincare are essential afterwards — we will guide you through the routine.

How many sessions will I need?

A series of sessions spaced roughly 4–6 weeks apart is commonly recommended. Your personalised plan is confirmed at consultation, and results vary between individuals.

Is skin needling the same as microneedling?

Yes — skin needling, microneedling and collagen-induction therapy all describe the same treatment. Different clinics and device brands favour different names for it.

When will I see results?

Some skin brightness is often noticeable within a week or two, but the collagen change builds over the following months and across a series of sessions. Texture and scarring generally take longer than overall tone. Individual results vary.

What are the risks?

As with any procedure there are potential risks and side effects, and results vary between individuals. Your practitioner will discuss these openly at your consultation so you can make an informed decision.
