Areas we treat
How it works & what to expect
IPL delivers controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light into the skin, where it is absorbed by pigment and visible vessels — supporting a more even-looking tone and fresher appearance over a series of sessions. Individual results vary.
Sessions are quick, with protective eyewear provided. Expect mild flushing for a few hours afterwards; treated pigmentation typically darkens before flaking away over the following week.
Risks & who it's not for
IPL is not suitable for everyone. A consultation is recommended first — particularly if you have a deeper or recently tanned skin tone, take photosensitising medication, are pregnant, or have a light-aggravated skin condition. Strict sun protection before and after treatment is essential.
Who it suits — and who it does not
IPL suits sun-related pigmentation, freckling, diffuse redness and the general unevenness that follows years of Queensland sun. It works by targeting pigment and vessels in the skin, so it needs contrast to work with.
That is also its limit. Recently tanned skin, deeper skin tones and some types of pigmentation are not suited to light-based treatment, and melasma in particular can worsen with heat and usually needs a different approach entirely. A patch test and individual assessment are how we establish which applies to you — they are the safety step, not paperwork.
It is not appropriate during pregnancy, over active infection, or alongside some medications that increase light sensitivity.
Aftercare and how many sessions
Treated pigment usually darkens for a few days before flaking away over one to two weeks — this catches people out and is a sign the treatment is working rather than a reaction. Do not scrub or pick it off.
A course of sessions spaced three to four weeks apart is typical, with deeper pigment needing more. Daily SPF50+ is what protects the result: sun exposure after IPL is the main cause of pigmentation returning. Our guide to IPL aftercare covers the fortnight in detail. Individual results vary.

Good to know
Why do my spots look darker afterwards?
Because the pigment is being drawn to the surface before it sheds. It typically darkens for a few days, then flakes away over one to two weeks. It is the expected sequence, not a reaction.
Is IPL suitable for all skin tones?
No — it targets pigment, so it is not appropriate for every skin tone or for recently tanned skin. That is exactly what the patch test and assessment establish, and we will tell you honestly if it is not the right tool for your skin.
What is IPL skin rejuvenation?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses controlled flashes of broad-spectrum light to target the appearance of pigmentation, sun damage, redness and visible capillaries, supporting a more even-looking skin tone. Individual results vary.
What areas can be treated?
Full face; full face and neck; full face, neck and décolletage; and back and shoulders. Spot treatments are also available for targeted pigmentation, redness or acne concerns.
How much does it cost?
Treatments start from $220 depending on the area. Spot treatments are priced at your consultation.
Does it hurt, and is there downtime?
Most clients describe the flashes as a quick warm flick. Skin can look flushed for a few hours, and treated pigmentation often darkens briefly before flaking away over the following days.
Is IPL suitable for me?
Suitability depends on your skin type, tan level, medications and the concern being treated — that is exactly what we confirm at a consultation before treating. Sun protection before and after is essential.
