HIFU Skin Tightening
HIFU skin tightening at our Fortitude Valley clinic in Brisbane, using the Ultraformer MPT. Focused ultrasound energy reaches the deeper layers of the skin and stimulates your own collagen, firming and lifting gradually over 2–3 months rather than all at once. Individual results vary.
It is a non-surgical option, so there is no incision and effectively no recovery period — but the trade-off is that results are more gradual and more subtle than surgery. Whether that trade-off suits your goals is exactly what the consultation is for.
Areas we treat
How it works & what to expect
The Ultraformer MPT delivers focused ultrasound energy to precise depths in the deeper tissue layers, stimulating your body’s own collagen production. Over the following 2–3 months, skin gradually firms and lifts in the treated area. Individual results vary.
Sessions involve brief warmth and tingling as the energy is delivered. There is minimal downtime — most clients return to their day immediately.
Risks & who it's not for
HIFU is not suitable during pregnancy, over metal implants or certain devices in the treatment area, or with some skin and medical conditions. Temporary redness, tenderness or mild swelling can occur. Your consultation and assessment confirm suitability before any treatment.
Who it suits — and who it does not
HIFU tends to suit people noticing early to moderate laxity: a softening jawline, a heavier lower face, or crepey skin on the neck, who want firming without surgery or downtime. Skin that still has reasonable elasticity responds best, because the treatment works by prompting your own collagen rather than removing tissue.
It is a poorer fit if the concern is significant sagging or excess skin — no energy device substitutes for surgery, and we would rather say so at consultation than have you spend money on a treatment unlikely to meet your expectation. Very thin or previously heavily treated skin may also need a different plan.
Your session, step by step
We start with an assessment of your skin and a conversation about what you want to change. The area is cleansed and a coupling gel applied, then the handpiece is moved across the treatment area in passes, delivering focused ultrasound at set depths.
You will feel brief warmth and a tingling or prickling sensation as each line of energy is delivered — it is noticeable but brief, and most clients find it manageable without numbing. A full face typically takes around 45–60 minutes; smaller areas considerably less. Afterwards the skin may look slightly flushed for a short time, and you can return to normal activities and makeup the same day.
How many sessions, and aftercare
Many clients have one session and reassess at the three-month mark, once collagen remodelling has had time to show. Some choose a second treatment after that, and a maintenance session every 12–18 months is common. Your plan is agreed at consultation rather than sold as a fixed package.
Aftercare is simple: keep the skin hydrated, use daily SPF, and avoid deliberate heat — hot yoga, saunas, very hot showers — for a day or two. Because collagen builds slowly, the most useful thing you can do is give it time before judging the result.
HIFU compared with other tightening options
HIFU uses ultrasound to reach deeper structural layers, which is why it is chosen for lifting. Radiofrequency works at shallower depths and is often better tolerated for overall skin quality and hydration, while skin needling targets texture, scarring and pore appearance rather than laxity.
They are not competing choices so much as different tools, and plans often combine them over time. We will tell you at consultation if one of the others is the better starting point for your concern.

Good to know
What is HIFU?
High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) delivers focused ultrasound energy to the deeper tissue layers to stimulate your body’s own collagen production — a non-invasive approach to skin tightening and lifting. We use the Ultraformer MPT. Individual results vary.
When will I see results?
Results develop gradually over 2–3 months as collagen rebuilds — with many clients noticing early changes sooner. Individual results vary.
How much does it cost?
Treatments start from $500 depending on the area. We require a consultation and thorough assessment before confirming exact pricing, so your plan is safe, suitable and tailored to you.
Does it hurt, and is there downtime?
You may feel brief warmth and tingling as the energy is delivered — most clients tolerate it well. There is minimal downtime; skin can be lightly flushed or tender for a short time afterwards.
How long do the results last?
The collagen your body builds does not disappear, but skin continues to age, so most clients consider a maintenance session every 12–18 months. How long you hold the result depends on your skin, age and lifestyle, and individual results vary.
Is HIFU safe for darker skin tones?
HIFU uses ultrasound rather than light, so unlike some laser and IPL treatments it does not target pigment — which generally makes it suitable across a broader range of skin tones. Suitability is still confirmed individually at your assessment.
Is HIFU a replacement for surgery?
It is a non-invasive alternative for people wanting tightening and lifting without surgery — with more subtle, gradual results than a surgical procedure. Whether it suits your goals is exactly what the consultation covers.
