Skin Needling Aftercare: How to Look After Your Skin Between Sessions

Skin needling (collagen-induction therapy) works by creating controlled micro-channels that prompt your skin's natural renewal processes. The treatment itself is only half the story — how you care for your skin afterwards plays a big role in how comfortably it recovers.

What is normal in the first 24–72 hours

Redness similar to a mild sunburn, warmth, and some tightness are typical on the day of treatment and usually settle over one to three days. Light flaking later in the week can also occur as the skin renews. Everyone recovers a little differently — your practitioner will tell you what to expect for your skin.

The do's

  • Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a calming, fragrance-free cleanser.
  • Support your barrier. Simple, soothing hydration is the goal for the first few days — a barrier-repair moisturiser and a gentle hydrating serum are ideal.
  • Protect religiously. Daily SPF50 is essential after needling, as your skin is more sun-sensitive while it renews. This is the single most important aftercare step in the Queensland climate.
  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase for the first couple of nights.

The don'ts (for the first few days)

  • No strong actives — pause retinoids, exfoliating acids and vitamin C until your practitioner gives the all-clear
  • No makeup for the first 24 hours
  • No saunas, hot yoga, swimming pools or strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours
  • No picking or peeling flaking skin
  • No direct sun exposure or solariums

Between sessions

Skin needling is usually performed as a series of sessions spaced roughly 4–6 weeks apart, and the skin's response builds gradually across the course. Between sessions, a consistent routine — gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, barrier-repair moisturiser and SPF — supports the renewal process. You can find practitioner-selected options for each step in our shop, or take the Skin Concern Quiz for a routine matched to your skin.

When to get in touch

If redness worsens after the first few days, or you notice anything that concerns you, contact the clinic — aftercare support is part of every treatment plan. And if you are considering skin needling but have not started yet, the Skin Needling page explains the treatment, and an individual consultation determines whether it suits your skin. Results vary between individuals.
