Microcurrent at Home: Luxera Device vs Medicube Age-R Booster Pro

At-home microcurrent and LED devices have gone from curiosity to bathroom staple, and two names keep coming up in our consult room: the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro, and the Luxera Microcurrent & LED Tightening Sculpting Device we stock at the clinic. Clients ask us almost weekly which one is worth it — so here is the honest, no-hype comparison we give in person.
First: what do these devices actually do?
Both devices combine several technologies in one handheld wand: microcurrent (a very low-level current used to give skin a firmer, more lifted look), LED light, and modes designed to help your skincare absorb better. Used consistently — a few minutes, a few times a week, over gel- or serum-prepped skin — they can support a smoother, fresher-looking complexion. They are cosmetic devices, not medical treatments: results are gradual, they vary between individuals, and they stop when you stop.
Spec for spec, they are closer than you'd think
Here is what the two devices offer side by side:
- Modes. Both offer the same four modes: Air Shot (prepping skin and enhancing absorption of your skincare), Booster (supporting elasticity and smoothing the look of fine lines), MC — microcurrent (a firmer, lifted look), and Derma Shot (sculpting the look of facial contours and refining the appearance of pores).
- Intensity and timing. The Luxera runs five intensity levels with a five-minute smart timer, so a session is short enough to do while the kettle boils. The Booster Pro is likewise designed around short daily sessions — check Medicube's current specifications for its level details.
- Price. The Luxera device is $349 at Deluxe You. The Age-R Booster Pro lists at an RRP of $580 in Australia and commonly sells around $479 at major retailers. Prices correct as at 27 July 2026 — both change with promotions.
- Where you buy it, and who helps you. Medicube is sold through online retailers and department stores. The Luxera is stocked by our clinic — which means you can see it in person in Fortitude Valley, and the people selling it to you are the same registered-nurse-led team who assess skin every day and can show you exactly how to use it on your face.
So which one should you choose?
If you are deep in the K-beauty ecosystem and want the brand you have seen everywhere, the Booster Pro is a well-regarded device — we would never tell you otherwise. We chose to stock the Luxera because it delivers the same four-mode approach at a meaningfully lower price, and because we believe a device works best when someone shows you how to use it properly: which serum to pair it with, how to angle the head flush against the skin, how often is enough.
Whichever you choose, technique matters more than brand
- Prep the skin. Microcurrent needs a water-based serum or gel to conduct — never use it on dry skin. (A hydrating serum does double duty here.)
- Keep the head flush. The full treatment surface should rest against the skin, gliding slowly upward along the jawline, cheeks and forehead.
- Short and consistent beats long and occasional. A five-minute session most days will do more than a marathon once a fortnight.
When in-clinic treatments can help
An at-home device is maintenance — a way to support and extend results between visits. If skin laxity or texture is your main concern, in-clinic options such as radiofrequency skin tightening work at a depth no home device reaches, and our team will tell you honestly at a consultation whether a device, a treatment plan, or both makes sense for you. Results vary between individuals.
